INCAS and the Art of Storytelling

We sat down with Dr Vefa Veisalova (who we like to call Vivi), the INCAS Strategic Communications Practice Lead, to discuss the art and project images used in our new website. Vivi spent the last six months working closely with a great team of designers from StartUp Venture Builders to rebrand INCAS. She also leads on the art, culture, and creativity stream of our Impact Strategy (2023-2028). Here’s our interview with her.
What’s the thinking behind the use of great art and project photos on the new INCAS website?

Vivi: We wanted to effectively use images to convey the INCAS brand identity, services, and expertise while also highlighting our hands-on and practical approach. The use of art images alongside project photos creates a cohesive visual narrative that immerses visitors in the company's work and demonstrates its understanding of the contexts in which it operates.

Tell us a bit more about the art.

Art is hugely effective in conveying the issues, feelings, and the reality of the contexts in which we work. The artists showcased on our website are true story-tellers. They draw us into moments and places in ways that regular photography cannot do. Having that sense of context is critical for our work and is what we imbue in every assignment. That’s why art fits so well with our brand.

And the project photos?

Vivi: The project photos, and the video on the home page, are taken by our experts when on assignment. We have images from Indonesia, Tanzania, Honduras, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Egypt, and Mauritania. They show how close we get to the issues and our hands-on approach. We are a “doing” business, not a talking and writing one. And when we talk and write, it’s about doing. This is what we want to show.

For you, what does it add up to?

Vivi: The combination of art images and project photos on the INCAS website creates a compelling visual representation of our commitment to practical problem-solving. It conveys the company's ability to understand the nuances of different contexts and apply its expertise to deliver effective solutions.

And what’s next?

Vivi: We are very pleased to be showcasing the artists behind the art on our website. This will be done over the next couple of months. The stories behind each art piece are fascinating. I think many of our followers will love it.

The other thing to say is that there's an art, culture, and creativity component to our Impact Strategy (2023-2028). As part of that, we've got a surprise art project coming up, which we'll also be talking about in the next few months.
